The Family Medicine Residency of Idaho (FMRI) is located in Ada County along the river where the desert meets the Rocky Mountains. FMRI offers excellent clinical training with superb patient volumes in all clinical areas. The vision of our program is to produce outstanding family physician leaders for their communities.
The mission of our program is three-fold:
-
Train superb medical school graduates to become outstanding physicians;
-
Prepare broadly trained family physicians to practice in rural Idaho; and
-
Serve the underserved.
We have an extremely talented faculty that consists of Family Physicians, Surgeons, Pediatricians, Obstetricians, Social Workers, Physician Assistants, a Nurse Practitioner, a Psychologist and a Psychiatrist, and a Pharm D to create the team environment needed to train a family physician. We are also supported by three excellent training medical centers, a committed state legislature and the backing of the Idaho Medical Association, the Idaho Hospital Association, the Idaho Academy of Family Physicians, and the Ada County Medical Society to ensure superb Family Medicine education.
About Us
Family Medicine Residency of Idaho (FMRI), an Ada County Safety Net Provider, offers sliding fee discount primary care services. In June 2007, FMRI received Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike status. Since 1975, FMRI has been caring for low income, uninsured, and medically indigent residents of Ada County and has served as that counties “unofficial” Community Health Center. The majority of unclaimed, unassigned indigent patients from hospital emergency rooms are referred to FMRI. These patients become the responsibility of FMRI in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
FMRI brings the value of a family medicine residency training program as well as large service provision to Idaho. With 33 resident physicians, 18 faculty physicians, and eight mid-level practitioners; FMRI provides 46,000 patient visits each year in two medical clinics, including over 20,000 inpatient medicine admissions per year, 2000 pediatric admissions per year, 1,300 medical admissions, and 1,500 obstetrical deliveries. FMRI's patient population includes 44% receiving Medicaid, 15% on Medicare, and another 33% are uninsured self-pay. FMRI proudly offers limited mental health services through our psychiatrist, psychologist, and three on-site mental health counselors.
Also, FMRI offers a variety of specialty care access, including but not limited to cardiology, orthopedics, colonoscopies, dermatology, and endoscopies. FMRI also depends heavily on a local Volunteer Physician Network sponsored by a free primary care clinic.
