Module Introduction

Welcome to the Idaho SEARCH Preceptor Development program. This program, created and made available to us by the University of Virginia, Department of Family Medicine, was designed to introduce preceptors to important components for clinical instructors. As you proceed through this program, some of the information may be familiar to you, in which case it will reinforce your current knowledge. In other cases the information may be new. Whichever the case, our hope is that this program will insure that all of Idaho SEARCH preceptors have a similar knowledge base from which to draw upon when precepting SEARCH participants (medical, nurse practitioner and physician assistant students/residents). This knowledge base can then be used to supplement the expertise you personally bring to all of your precepting encounters. Our goal is to provide a program that is enjoyable, stimulating, flexible and convenient. You can participate in this program from your office or home.

The Idaho SEARCH Preceptor Development Program is organized into a series of discrete learning modules. Each module can be completed in approximately 15-40 minutes.

The modules are designed as stand-alone activities. As a result, you can complete as many modules as you like during a computer session. However, you cannot stop in the middle of a module so it is important that you set aside the appropriate amount of time per session. The program was designed this way to ensure educational continuity and avoid distraction during a module. The estimated average amount of time needed to complete each module is noted at the beginning of the module. Once a module is completed, it can be saved for your future reference.

The modules are displayed using a web browser with the Quicktime and Acrobat plugins to play the video examples. See system requirements below:
